CTG Case 14

Happy baby.

Summary

A 34 year old G2 P1. Gestation week 39+2. Admitted in spontaneous labour. Normal pregnancy. At 23:00 SROM with clear liquor and contracting since then.

  • 01.02 VE: Cx 1 cm long, dilated 3 cm, vx -2. FSE applied. Patient using nitrous oxide.
  • 02.45 VE: Cx fully effaced, 4 cm dilated, vx -2. Epidural sited.
  • 03.00 Oxytocin infusion started.
  • 03.10 Tachysystole. Oxytocin infusion stopped.
  • 06.04 Vx visible. Active pushing starts.
  • 06.10  SVD. Baby girl born. 4230 g. Apgar 9,10,10

Comment

Normal baseline heart rate, normal variability, accelerations present and normal uterine activity after Oxytocin infusion was stopped.

Hyperstimulation with oxytocin gives no time for recovery between contractions. There will be an accumulation of carbon dioxide, resulting in a drop in pH.
